Badly needs an update. One of the core requirements of the book is using PhoneGap Developer. The book is just about useless without it.However, it seems this app is not compatible with many Android phones. As well, Apple made Adobe take down the IOS version. So unless you have a Windows phone or the few Android phones the PhoneGap Developer App supports, this book is just about useless. The Author needs to find an alternative solution for the smartphone app or throw the book into the discount bin.

I was very disappointed because there was only one project using the Raspberry Pi and Bluetooth. Almost all of the book's contents was about Arduino Bluetooth projects. The cover is very misleading: it should not have used Raspberry Pi on the cover, and then have only a single Raspberry Pi and Bluetooth project. It seems like the single project using Raspberry Pi was included to be able to put Raspberry Pi on the cover to help sell the book. Don't buy this book if you want information about the Raspberry Pi and Bluetooth.

Agree with the review by "aw".Each project in the book starts with the hardware/micro-controller code portion, you buy the hardware then build the circuit. Next step is to use an an app called "LightBlue" (available from the Apple app store) to test everything and to see it work. LightBlue however is not a particularly user friendly interface. Final step is to use an app called PhoneGap to create something a lot more polished in terms of a UI.Unfortunately you no longer have access to PhoneGap thru the Apple app store. PhoneGap is available for iOS if you register as an Apple Developer and pay a $99 annual fee. I wrote the publisher of the book over a week ago looking for some information about all this and they haven't responded...I guess that's my answer. So the book is useful if you want to get started with BLE and try a few projects. Not at all useful if you want to follow-through to the conclusion of each project in creating a working UI. So $20 for the book, a hundred bucks or so for all the hardware (things you can keep for other projects though) and another hundred bucks to Apple for the privilege of making that $1,000 phone you bought from them a little more useful.

Fun projects with straight forward explainations and directions. After working through the material I have a good understanding of the concepts covered.

Decent projects, wish there was more R-PI projects though.

Too difficult

I like the book a lot, it was really helpful and I keep it to refer to it when I'm starting some new project in an area new to me.

Great book on BLE 4 examples!
