Many short myths. Often only a paragraph long. I love the overview and summary of previous traditions. I really do not appreciate the statements that old cultures must have thought or believed or practiced certain things. That it is obvious that the progression followed certain preconceived patterns. I think that it is the common assumption that today's culture is better than cultures that lived in harmony with nature. Perhaps it is the assumption that ancient cultures did not understand nature or the physical laws or patterns that governed their world. A wonderful book IF the author had believed in the subject.

I'm a little annoyed at the reviews that state that this work is dry and boring. This book was thrilling to read. It's filled with myth and lore from around the globe and historical references to forests and trees and how they were venerated, feared, idolized in ages past. The author has arranged his information in a way that links his references very cohesively and I know I'm going to be reading this book again and again. Highly recommended!

If you enjoy the myths and folk-tales ,surrounding the lore of trees,then i would like to recommend this arboral classic to you.The problem that some readers may have with the book is the erudite and dated style of the book.Yet,that's the type of book ,i like.There's another difficulty with the book,in a global context.It being written some eighty years ago,it leaves out Native-american,Latin-american,Asian and African myths and tree legends .Completely catering to a European-american audience only.So,keeping that in mind,is really helpful before hand.Nevertheless,it's a wealth of 'enthnodendrography' ,that will entertain and educate all scholars of the 'Dendro-Mythos'.

All kinds of stuff on forests and trees from various folklore, religion and mythology sources from cultures all over the world. Read this and go for a long walk in the woods alone at night and I doubt you won't believe there is something magic and spiritually alive in the forest.

A wonderful book! So many facts and meanderings are to be found within. It's a reprint of the 1928 copy. Not to be missed if you adore forests and feel an awe-inspiring hush and stirring when you are enveloped in it's arms....listening to the leaves talk.

Attached to this review will be a silent flip-through of the entire coloring book and some sample photos so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not it will work for you.I am a huge Disney fan. I lived near Disneyland for most of my life and, as an adult with children, I purchased annual season passes for many years so we could visit the Park throughout the year. Looking through this book reminded me of my childhood and of my children's childhood as well. It showed me how pervasive Disney has been in my life. My grandson loves to watch Disney movies during his TV time at our house and I get to revisit all of these characters for a third time in my life.The book is filled with many Disney Animal characters. The book is divided into three segements: Animal Heroes, Animal Villains, and Side-kicks. Because of the “side-kick” portion of the book, many of the major Disney characters make an appearance in this book. The designs are based on a wide variety of movies, including 101 Dalmations, Brave, The Aristocats, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Dumbo, The Lion King and much more.Oddly, the lead-in on the intro page as a reference (by implication) to Steamboat Willie; however, there weren't any Mickey Mouse designs in this book. Hopefully, Disney will come out with a book the family of characters, such as Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck and Pluto, that we know from their older cartoons.What isn't mentioned in the product blurb is that these designs are done in a doodle style. Because of that, the designs are not only detailed but also have many intricate and tiny elements to color that will probably require special small nib pens, markers, and/or pencils. This coloring book could be a serious challenge for anyone with vision and or fine motor issues.The book has a nice heavyweight cardboard cover (front and back) which makes for a great solid surface to color on. The designs are printed on both sides of the page and the paper is not perforated. The binding is sewn rather than glued, so removing it takes only a few snips with a small scissor on a few pages. I won't be doing this, however, as removing pages will make it nearly impossible to re-align the two-pages design spreads.There are 23 designs which span across 2 pages. In most cases, there are integral portions of the design that will difficult to color as parts are “lost” in the binding area. The rest of the designs are one page designs but even those have less essential portions that merge into the binding. There are a number of “wallpaper” style designs of repeating patterns in the book. I usually don't like that style of design but these are so cute, I find myself wanting to color those as well.This is what I experienced in coloring in this book and testing the paper with my various coloring medium. In the comments section below, I will list the coloring medium I use for testing and which I use for most of my coloring projects.100 pages of various Disney Animals and other Disney characters as wellPrinted on both sides of the pagePaper is heavyweight, white (though some backgrounds are black), smooth, and non-perforated.Sewn Binding. Even though you can release several pages at a time by snipping threads, I don't suggest it as the two-page designs will be split one from another and it is difficult to line them back up again.Most designs merge into the binding areaMany designs are spread across two pages. My copy of the book is well lined up on these designs. However, coloring into the binding area is difficult and essential portions of the design cross the binding.Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper quickly.Water-based markers, gel pens and India ink pens did not bleed through this paper.Colored pencils, both wax and oil based did okay with this paper. I was able to get good color and layer the same color and multiple colors well. The issue I had was with blending. Using my standard pencil style blending stick for my tests, the color didn't blend well. Rather, it seemed to stick to my blending stick and “erase” from the page. Hard lead pencils, like Verithins, worked best for coloring tiny elements as I could sharpen the pencil to a very tiny and sharp point.While I love the subject matter and the actual designs, I dropped the rating on this review to a 4 rather than a 5 based on the issue I had with colored pencils on this paper and the difficulty of coloring into the binding on nearly all pages. With some forethought, the publisher could have lined the two-page spread with the stitching which would have made it much easier to color those designs as that page is, essentially, a single long page rather than two disconnected pages.

This hardcover coloring book is beautiful from the inside out. Very much unlike regular children's coloring books, this one has intricate and unique designs (I'm confused about how one might mistake this as lazy). You can choose to use single colors to cover a large amount of detail at a time, or challenge yourself and fill in each detail separately. Either way, the pictures come out looking great. You'll want to keep your colored pencils sharpened or use small-tipped pens/markers (a brand that will not bleed through) if you plan on working on the details. The pages are not perforated and are bound into the hardcover, so tearing them out is not an option. The book gives a good variety of characters (from more than 16 different Disney films) from familiar currents to nostalgic classics. My favorite page would definitely be the one with the little oysters. I'm hoping they'll come out with anther book, this time with Oliver and Company!This book is great for: Artists of all ages but especially those that like to spend time on detail.This book isn't so great for: People who prefer simplistic images such as those found in typical children's coloring books or those who get frustrated with detail, those who prefer to work with large markers that have the potential to bleed, those who prefer to tear out their pages.Side note: I find it pretty funny how many of the reviewers are perplexed by the idea of the Beast being portrayed as a villian. He was arrogant, selfish, and hot-headed for a good portion of the film (much like Gaston) and while in his animal form. Yet, some people here act as if Disney has banned him from being categorized as a good guy. Should we ignore his past and overlook his progression which portrayed the overall lesson in the film, only to focus on his hero-like qualities? Come on, guys.

This supplement to d20 Modern provides a number of campaign options and rules additions to a post-apocalyptic campaign. The book gives several options for the cause of the apocalypse (nuclear, invasion, plague, final jodgement, etc.).The book also includes four stages of the post-apocalypse: Aftermath, Generation 0, Dark Ages, New World. Each has a different feel to it, and GMs can use the the descriptions to refine their campaign. Types of post-apocalypse societies are described, and several examples are included.Rules for scavenging in the ruins are a very useful section. Buildings are rated by size, damage level, and how long they've been abandoned. What can be found varies by building type - you're more likely to find food in a supermarket, and mechanical parts in a garage. Finally, the chance of a building collapsing on the searchers is also included.The book contains a section on fantasic mutations, a la Gamma World. I have not read through the mutations in enough detail to know if the mutations in this book mesh well with those in the d20 Gamma World books from Sword & Sorcery. But I'm sure a talented GM can incorporate them together.Finally, there are a number of monsters, three predesigned campaigns, prestige classes and equipment. The material is solid, though not exceptionally original. The equipment lists include a number of different items, enough that a good GM can figure out the Trade Unit cost of other items fairly easily.There are a few holes. Despite the centaur on the front cover, and the nice illustration of bugbear scavengers on pg. 12, there is not much reference to the role of non-humans (from Urban Arcana and the like) in a post-apocalypse world. A few GMs I've known blend the post-apocalypse into technofantasy, and this is unfortunately missing.Overall, I think this book is a useful addition to a GM's library.

I really enjoyed this supplement. Like much of the d20 Modern rules and setting supplement, Apocalypse uses a fair amount of humor - both for presentation and within the actual content. The book offers two sets of things: new rules and options for playing a d20 Modern game in a post-apocalyptic setting; and several sample settings and apocalyptic events. The rules are adaptable to any setting you would want to create, and I think expand very nicely on some of my favorite aspects of the d20 Modern game. The philosophy of the whole ruleset is to provide a simple mechanic that effectively and elegantly emulates a real-world event, structure or process, without having to reenact every aspect of it. The basic rules do this best with the wealth system. The Apocalypse rules offer systems for barter and trade (assigning items a point value) that accounts for the end of the world (basic value is based upon food and fuel). Supplements to this system allow you to trade is collections of parts, which very effectively streamlines the repair and craft skills while successfully emulating a real world system. This system allows you to operate your game and gameworld without the rules getting in the way. A simple system can be expanded infinitely. On the whole, you don't need to waste time on seeking out the carburetor for a '67 Chevy, but you can make that quest if it becomes necessary, etc. I won't take much time on the settings, because they are brief to begin with. However, I will just note that I really like them. I have not used them in my games but each provides a number of settings, classes, organizations, NPCs and monsters that can help you expand your game and inspire your own setting. None of them reflected the exact setting I have wanted to use in running a game, so I have harvested them for their good points and added my own flavor. But each is an excellent starting point for a new campaign, for sure. Overall, I have really enjoyed this supplement. It represents all the things I really enjoyed about d20 Modern: the elegance of the social rules, the interchangeability of parts (my campaign drew from this book, d20 Future and Urban Arcana) and the talent of the creators and writers. It's a real shame that this system has not been better supported by Wizards of the Coast.

This gave me ideas for apocalypse writing. While I'm both a gamer and a writer, I find there's a lot of overlap between the two disciplines of entertainment. It gave me campaign ideas, which is good for a writer who also likes D&D games. D&D is more suited as a toolbox than a story guide, but I feel you can learn a lot from roleplaying games, and D&d is the best of the best, even when it experiments with modern settings like D20 Modern. I feel this particular expansion was one of their more imaginative expansions for the 3.0-3.5 era.

This supplement does a good job of providing all the info you would need to start creating a post apocalyptic setting, however it does not provide every single chart and table, so you definitely have to have the d20 future core rule book and probably the d20 modern core rule book as well. To be more specific, this supplement does a good job of telling you all of things you are going to need to think of before you begin your campaign (like figuring out what caused the apocalypse) and it gives a lot of advice and suggestion to help you answer those questions (like giving a list of around 10 different possible causes for an apocalypse), but it does not have everything you would need. For instance, it talks a lot obout nuclear weapons and radiation, but the actual rules for radiation are in the d20 future core rule book. Nevertheless it is worth buying if you want to run a post apocalyptic campaign. It dcoes have quite a few prestige classes and it provides a lot of information and charts on scrounging for supplies and how hard that should be.

As stated before, this book is a bit skimpy on the details. What has disappointed me was the fact that many of the rules and tables needed to use the book are NOT included. Example: radiation rules..."please see D20 Future". Some new mutation examples were given but 75% of the rest are not included. Only buy this book if you already have or are planning on purchasing d20 Future.

I went from a 6 figure job to unemployed and almost losing my home. I moved in with my parents and that is when I bought this book. Since then (2008) I have used the information towards my own benefit and accomplished things I never thought I could, money, happiness, health and the most important lesson was to slow down and enjoy everything I do. I hope you are able to grab the flame from this book and empower yourself with the use of wisdom Tony has put together.Basic lesson is this: You are a reflection of all of your past thoughts and actions...but you are not your past...its all in your mind stuck leaving you in a rut and this book is the tow truck to help "you" get yourself out.

I was slightly prejudiced about Tony simply because I didn't know anything about him, except he seemed to be a big loud American (all true and not a negative) and a bit too much like a religious preacher. In Ireland we're quicker to take someone down rather than build them up so people with those quick assessments will be avoided.I've read all the top 40 and probably top 100 personal development books out there. Eventually I was running out of ones to read. And I would still come across recommendations for this book every now and then. So I read it. It's brilliant and I wish I read it a few years ago.I am a willing open audience as I've previously read all the books and science information this is based on. Yet Tony brought more insight, different compelling articulation, and real world application beyond what I'd read before to have me raving about this book.It's worth more than the money charged just for the chapter on "rules" and then again for the chapter on "emotions". It's a ridiculous bargain for what I've gained from it and I've since bought it as a Kindle gift for many friends.It's a shame the Audible version is so abridged and unavailable in a full version. Maybe Tony feels it may take away from his audio products sales. I would love an unabridged Audible version and would buy it for many people as a gift.

Although I have always been impressed with Tony Robbins because of extraordinary philanthropic record, my respect for him skyrocketed when I read “Awaken the Giant Within.” This is certainly one those “change your life” books. Tony starts the book with the three steps to success, and then spends the rest of the book inspiring and guiding the reader to improve his life dramatically. The first of the three steps that Tony says is to raise your standards. By reading his approach to this fundamental concept of self-improvement, I realized that I was accepting so many things in my life that, if I would only raise my standards, would be so much improved. From the standpoint of running a business, I began to see how many more people I could help, and in my personal life, too, I realized that I certainly could increase the time I spent with my family and also pursue other personal goals as well. In fact, since I finished the book I have now gotten my spoken French to a much more fluent level and have even performed a short stand-up comedy bit to group of about fifty people.One of the themes that Tony constantly teaches is that everything we do is for one of two reasons: increase pleasure or avoid pain. He often uses weight loss strategies as a way to help readers think of ways to use the pleasure/pain principal in their lives. I decided to apply that, and started on a weight loss program, too. Although I wasn’t suffering from being terribly overweight, I had certainly let a few too many pounds slip on over the years. Moreover, I had also moved towards a less healthy diet. By internalizing Tony’s approach, I have not only cut out all processed sugars from my diet (no cakes, cookies, candy) which will lower my chances to get diabetes one day, but I also was able drop about 15 pounds, bringing me almost to my ideal weight (where I expect to be within another month or two).These are just a few examples of how reading “Awaken” has improved my life. There are many more, and I am just one of millions of people who’ve had their lives improved because of Tony Robbins. I strongly suggest this book to everyone.

Did I just pay for full price for what should be considered a free sample? I’m disappointed Amazon even considers this an “audiobook.” This short version shouldn’t even be considered abridged. There is simply SOO much text missing that you are forced to buy the book since there is not enough depth in the audio version to really grasp/understand any of the concepts. I feel deceived and scammed.

Life changing for me. It’s really helpful if you actually do what Tony suggests.I jokingly made a list of qualities I wanted in a person as well as a list of things I would not tolerate in someone. Tony suggests a much shorter list. But I was determined to get what I really wanted! I ended up with a list of 28 qualities I’d like to have in a partner. I laughed as I continued to write and thought to myself, “No wonder I’m single!”About one month later I met someone I really liked. By this time I had completely forgotten about the list. After dating for a couple of weeks, I remembered the list and I went back to read it. Not only was she was everything on the list, but I ended up adding 2 more things because of her.There’s so much more in this book than a plan to find a great match. I plan on reading this book again!

This is specifically for the Audiobook edition,The infomation provided is good, hearing it read by Tony gives you addition intensity to the work, but unfortunately, the Audiobook is Abridged, and shorter than I would have liked. It is a great companion to listen to in the car, but you also really need to get the book to get all the information.
