So it took me 8 days to write my PPA, day and night. About 3 nights i did not sleep at all. Stood up 24 hrs just trying to be a perfectionist.Based on my experience, and my understanding of how important it is to do a patent application right whether its just a provisional or not, I dont 100% agree with the book saying in just 24 hrs of your time you can write a patent (and I'm sure they mean that 24 hrs can be spilt across a few days). You need to take your time. The book gives you almost everything you need to write and submit your provisional.However, I would suggest that they go into more detail on how to file online simply because I had hell with a PDF font error that kept coming up after I uploaded my Specification file. The illustration/drawings went through fine but the full text document was a pain. The book simoly says if you get any errors go back and fix them. That's not good enough. Between my husband and myself, we had to search the internet to figure out how to resolve the problem.To save you the trouble, i will tell you how to fix the Font embedded error that the USPTO website gives you. The website will tell you your font isnt embedded if you save your PDF file the default way. If you just save the document with the settings MS Word already put there you may run into to trouble.What you have to do is click save as, save the file type as PDF, click on minimum size, click options, select under PDF options "ISO 19005-1 compliant (PDF/A)". Hit ok. Then save.Once your specifaction is saved this way, the USPTO website will accept the upload and you will be able to continue.They also didnt make the part about the Application data sheet clear enough. They dont refer to actual document name which i had to figure out for myself. I used the PTO/SB/16 form which is the cover sheet required for the provisional application. If i didnt decide to improve my claims and send a second provisional i would not have noticed that I needed to submit that form just going based off the book. Yes I did not use Nolo's system to apply because you dont have to. They also let you know you can choose if to use their system or not. I guess thats why they didnt give you solid details on all the info needed for the uspto website, maybe hoping you'd use theirs. Thats a huge assumption on my end though.Anyway, I also did alot of online research before buying this book and probably half the things in the book i already knew but it still was a lifesaver in many other areas.I like how they have examples of patents in the book. It is so helpful. Overall, the book helps you out and it is written to help you skip chapters as needed so you can just get the info you want as quickly as possible. They didnt just assume you will want to read the whole book. I also like that they are sample of agreements in there too.The book is good but could be better. It should provide assistance with the challenges that occur with the online application process. I'd give 3.5 stars if i could. But thats it.Also, this book wont help you write a provisional patent application you can later convert into a non provisional patent application. It says so itself, so if thats what youre looking for something that will help you write a patent based on the standard requirements this book is not for you.Remember the provisional doesn't have to be like the standard and official non provisional. So it you want to write a provisional that can be used as a non provisional try a book for the non provisional.

Excellent book written for the common person. It is well written and great attention to detail to help make people successful.

Alexandra Zapruder did an excellent job of updating Salvaged Pages. It is a compilation of diaries of children who lived during the Holocaust. Now grown up or having perished, Alexandra has drawn from many diaries the ones she felt told their stories the best. She explains the research she did for this book and the first edition. She also talks about the impact her book made on teachers who teach the Holocaust. This book is to be accompanied by online help and lessons. She completed additional research on a few of the survivors and added to their stories.The book is an excellent resource for teachers. You can use the entire book as a text or make selections from it to show how different the children were and how their different experiences help make up a clearer picture of the Holocaust. It is well written and Alexandra offers her help to teachers in their classrooms or in professional meetings.

Excellent book. Very well written, and Ms. Zapruder is a very kind woman. She has put extensive time into these, and each diary entry by each young one will rip at your heart strings. If you found diaries such as Anne Frank's interesting, then you will also find the same - if not more - intrigue in this book. Well worth the price - you will get to see the day-to-day life of young ones in a world where the only crime they committed was being born Jewish.

The book is very moving. The authors capture the terrible time in history exquisitely. I am amazed by the quality of writing. It is sad to read but hard to put down.

This is, simply put, one of the most significant books about the Holocaust ever published, perhaps because it is less about the Holocaust, and more about life and the young people who lived during that time. Now in its second edition, this powerful text continues to give voice to children whom without it we may never have known. As a teacher, my students have found this book compelling, gripping, and personal. As a scholar, I find it a valuable resource. As a human, I find it a companion, a window into the past, into lives not unlike my own save for the dire circumstances in which they were lived out. And as a father, I find it a strong reminder of both how precious and how delicate young lives truly are. Personal, intimate, uniquely individualized, these are the voices we were never meant to hear, and they remind us, one after another, of the significance of fighting hatred and intolerance in our world, so that the pages of our children might not require being salvaged.

A fascinating read!This is a well researched, very informative and beautiful but harrowing collection of diaries written by young people during the Holocaust. The author done a brilliant job in connecting the subject and writers by their circumstances and situation, what their diaries convey and how it relates to other testimonies. We come to understand that Anne Frank wasn’t the only voice who speaks in terms of the holocaust, but from these accounts we enter the worlds of writers who become refugees in their native countries, have to flee to neutral ground, young people who, with their families and loved ones, are forced into ghettos/ concentration camps and succumb to starvation and disease. Some writers even die and their diaries miraculously survive them, others document their lives up to liberation and provide a realistic depiction of what it was like to overcome so much suffering and watch their families get murdered by the Nazis.If you have an interest in history, non fiction or want to have a broader understanding of the holocaust, or even writings written by teenagers, this is the book for you. It offers a rich insight surrounding the era of world war 2.This isn’t another Anne Frank book, written retrospectively and in the safety and security of family and helpers providing sanctuary, etc. but diaries written by teenagers hoping to survive the very moment and psychologically trying to understand the horrors in which they find themselves.I found reading this book very powerful, and though it’s purpose isn’t to somehow bring the writers back to life, I found myself in their place, visualizing their torment and anxieties, being intimately close as they live the next entry and don’t know when their end will come. It’s important when reading books like this to have firm perspective; this isn’t perfected literature, but true to life’s documentations of ones fight for survival.The new, multimedia edition to Salvaged Pages offers an even closer glimpse of the writers endurance. We get to see maps where the writers were situated throughout the war and their travels, war time photographs of the diarist and their families and friends, photographic evidence of the handwritten journals, and even videos of the authors telling their stories in present day. The author of this book also shows recorded videos reading an entry of each diarist and offering more biographical information, as well as giving her own philosophical understanding from the diaries being read, and her interpretation of those works.This is a remarkable book and I’m sure one that will be taught for many decades to come, offering students as well as teachers a better understanding of world war 2’s history and the holocaust especially. A great resource for travelling throughout Argentina. This was an excellent edition. I believe it was a little older than others out there, but through research I found it had the best information. I took it to Argentina with me. This was my #2 book for Argentina. I did find a better one, but this was one a great source as well.

Prefer the practicalities of the Fodor's book but this one is lovely. The two together are a great combo.

Their love relationship is best described in the author’s own words: “She trusted me, and the reward for both of us was that she was free to be herself in my presence. Maybe I needed to learn to trust someone, too…” Yet, tragic choices of partners in marriage, that twice resulted in the worst kind of abusive betrayals, lead her further into a hellish life. This compels her deeper descent into alcohol abuse and dependency. Yet, in time, the author learns so much about life, people, addiction, and herself: “I concluded there were two kinds of crazy people: the ones who knew they were crazy and the ones who didn’t.” Which drives the story to the inspirational outcome of recovery, and eventual dedication to helping other addicts recover too: “Nobody made it through life without scars; it was just a question of what kind.” I found so much wisdom within this story that I was tempted to high-lite each little pearl of truth, yet I found all the pages turning yellow! Thus, in her eventual sober wisdom, she reveals how it felt: “The two words that best described how it felt to be sober the first few years were overwhelmed and fearful.” I found great irony in that these same words also describe what drives so many souls into addiction too. This book is so well written and personal, that it leaves the reader fully engaged in the author’s world, and grateful for the new found awareness, wisdom, and insight into how the love of a horse can be one’s salvation. I'm a sucker for anything to do with horses, so when I saw the cover with its beautiful Arabian horse, I was hooked. Even when I found out that the horse in the story is a Morgan, I thought 'artistic license' and kept reading. Unfortunately, the story is about the writer overcoming her addiction to alcohol through her obsession to the horse. It could just as easily been about painting, or music, or running marathons. It just happened to be about her relationship with the horse. I just didn't find her story compelling.

We are all broken in our own unique ways. For Susan, saddled with a life of loneliness, sadness, poor self-esteem led to an alcohol soaked adulthood. However, a beautiful horse, Georgia, gives her a reason to ground herself; to care for such a horse would require sobriety. Can this, teamed with moving where she doesn't know a soul help her reinvent and rebuild her life?

I’ve just finished reading all 3 of Susan Richards’ memoirs (Chosen By A Horse, Chosen Forever, Saddled) and all 3 are really wonderful cover to cover.These books contain so many layers of life that I learned a lot and healed a lot throughout reading them.

I did not want this book to end. This book is about the love of a woman for her horse. But it's also about the challenges of being a child of an alcoholic, and of being an active and then recovering alcoholic. The author's writing style is honest, vulnerable, concise. She lets you into her struggles and allows you to travel through to her eventual healing with her.I highly recommend to animal lovers, horse lovers and anyone interested in alcoholism and recovery. Great read! Hope this author writes many more!

This author's writing style is so quiet and seamless that before you know it, the sun is coming up and you've been reading all night long. She is a gifted story teller with a great-big heart. If you love horses and the natural world you will laugh and cry while turning the pages of a Susan Richards story. I have now read all that she has published and find myself resisting the temptation to call her on the phone. That's how intimate her writing style is. We love her animals right along with her and we feel her deep anguish and pain. I hope she will be publishing more soon because I am addicted. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying a Susan Richards memoir. She really is "all that."

I read much negative review of her (character) in the 1st two books, and consequently didn't buy them. But being a recovering alcoholic & having gone thru divorce(without the abuse) -- all before rediscovering to the Path of the Horse (after 55 yrs), this book is truly the redemption & explanation of the author's (apparent) "bad" behavior and the true healing that horses can provide!

A story that takes you on a ride through a life in need of salvation from drinking, abuse and for her damaged soul. The author opens up the pain that was her life in a book so well written you not only feel the pain of her life but the path to recovery. Marie and Pierre get all the credit, but Irene was a great scientist who spent a lot of her life either in the shadow of her parents or struggling against a system that refused to believe that a woman could be not only a good scientist but a great scientist. Add on top of all that, she was a Jew in Germany as the Nazi's came to power. So her contributions were often mis-credited and covered-up.And Lise Meitner has also been more of a shadow figure and her role has not been as well known as it should be.This is a great book explaining the the physics and chemistry behind all the radioactive research and science, but also the culture and politics at the time.

This is a good book for young people to learn not only about the discovery of nuclear fission, but to understand the role of women in nuclear science.I have produced two films on both of these women. They are: The Path to Nuclear Fission: The Story of Lise Meitner and Otto Hahn and Out from the Shadows: The Story of Irene Joliot Cureie and Frederick Joliot Curie for an adult audience.

Good read for 7-10 grade research, or just for fun if you love history and science.

This book shows the lives and work of two important female scientists: Irene Curie (Marie Curie's daughter) and Lise Meitner. While the science was a bit hard, the story of a woman struggling to be recognized in a science field in the early 1900's was engrossing.Irene Curie never failed to help people. She went to military posts and cured men after an air raid. She spent her 18th birthday in a post at Hoogstade, Belgium. We also learn about Meitner, who struggled not only to obtain an education, but also to find jobs in her field. She was involved in experiments including nuclear fission, but her work was interrupted by WWII.Both highly educated women struggled against the fact that they couldn’t get what they deserved. Curie's efforts to join the French Academy of Science were repeatedly turned down, while Meitner never received a Nobel Prize despite 15 nominations. As conflict builds up in these women’s lives, they try to find a compromise.This book is a blend of biography, science, and heart-warming story. How Irène Curie And Lise Meitner Revolutionized Science And Changed The World by Winifred Conkling tells of two little known scientists and their journey to success through the experimentation of radium and other various substances.While I usually find nonfiction books bland and have trouble concentrating, I did not experience that with RADIOACTIVE! at all --- it was dynamic and a pleasure to read. RADIOACTIVE! Will keep readers gripped by not only informing them about the scientific aspects of Irène Curie and Lise Meitner's life, but also the personal side. While reading, I learned so many new things about these two female scientists that I didn't know before, such as Meitner’s discovery of the nuclear fission. I found that the book almost read like a fiction novel, which was perfect for keeping me gripped on to the story.I think it’s important that that the subject material in YA nonfiction books can be understood by readers aged 12 and above, and RADIOACTIVE! achieves that. As you would expect from a novel about two scientists that worked on radioactivity, there are some pretty hefty science facts that might not be easily understood at first glance. Conkling really makes sure you understand the subject matter, though, by including illustrations to ease you in. I found these extremely useful during my reading and appreciated the helping hand.I did notice, however, that Conkling talked about the two physicists separately rather than intertwining their stories. It didn't throw off the groove of the book, by any means, but I think their stories would have been improved if they were woven together.There's no doubt that RADIOACTIVE! isn't for everyone, but if you like empowering reads about women or enjoy learning about science and the politics of it, pick up this book and give it a whirl.
