This play-along music allowed me to capture the sound, rhythm, and style of the greatest alto saxophone player in history, Paul Desmond. The CD features John Desalme on sax. He does an awesome job of playing the style of Desmond. Many of the songs are too difficult for me but I'll continue to practice. Thanks to Hal-Leonard corporation for publishing this product.

I play tenor sax and I have been determined to learn Take Five which has 4 Flats for the tenor.I'm used to playing in 1, 2, or 3 Sharps and the the fast pace of Take Five with many notes in 4 Flats was quite a work-out.I haven't played the other tunes - - but I think that the cost of the CD and book is worth it for Take Five only.This play-along of Take Five gave me some "wood sheding" and this tune alone made me just a bit better.Dann

I really like this book & CD. It was just what I was looking for as a guide to Paul Desmond's style. Probably for more advanced players than beginning sax students. I've played for over 40 years and enjoy the music sheets with chord lists.

Both the written music and the Tracks are of high quality. I will recommend this to others. I look forward to buying other similar similar play along products

It's too bad the prospective buyer has no opportunity to see what Desmond solos are found in this collection. Desmond was "sui generis," truly one of a kind, and each of his solos promises to contain fresh discoveries about his lyrical, quick and often witty, spontaneous creativity. Some of his most brilliant work is found on recordings made before the Quartet's contract with Columbia (e.g. "Jazz at Oberlin" and "Jazz at the College of the Pacific," both on the Fantasy label). It would be especially useful to any student of jazz improvisation to have transcriptions of some of these early solos, if only to identify Paul's musical "quotations."

We have been purchasing these for a number of years and our kids and others wonder why we wouldnt just use a GPS or our phones to map where we are traveling. Well, mostly because when we go to remote, heavily wooded and hilly or mountainous like the White Mountains, or Upstate New York, our WV, we are told over and over do not relay on devices as you may not have good signal or they are unreliable. So for us, the maps are ideal and show us every backcountry road there is.

There may be good information in this book, but it is organized in a way that was not useful to us either in planning our 2 week trip to Vermont and New Hampshire or as a reference during travels.

Great ideas for planning our trip later next year

Since I am a fairly new resident of New Hampshire and have been coming here for years, I thought it was about time to get off the beaten path and rediscover NH. This book should help me achieve that and is easy to take with.

After hearing Dawn speak at Scaling New Heights in June 2016 and then again at QuickBooks Connect in October 2016, I knew I had to read her book ASAP. I have enjoyed it so much, I now listen to the audible while driving so I can internalize all the amazing tips she provides in this financial goldmine! I am a Small Business Strategist and I am always searching for better ways to educate my clients on the importance of strong financial health. Her writing is engaging and creative and I love her visual analogies. What I enjoyed most about her writing is her visual depiction of the 3 most important financial statements as your company's automobile dashboard and your accountant is the "mechanic": the Income Statement is the Speedometer, the Cash Flow Statement is the Gas Gauge and the Balance Sheet is the Oil Pressure Gauge. All these areas need to run cohesively together and we have our "mechanic" to keep us well maintained and running smoothly. True Brilliance and now I am just crossing my fingers to have this treasure translated in Spanish so I can share with all my Spanish Speaking clients & colleagues. #AccountingfortheNumberphobicsEnEspanol

It seems there are already tons of reviews on this book. One may be mine from years ago, so rather than repeat it, let me just say, I’ve been reading True crime books for almost 40 years now , and this book and author rank among the best. The story is interesting, you get to know all the characters well , and it’s written in the old-style way that true crimes should all be done. Not written to give the killers any glory , but to honor the memory of the victims and pay respect to their families. It also teaches you about the dedication of a police officer and how he made promises to the victims that he’d find the ones responsible . You cannot find any better than this if looking for true crime.

This is one of the most interesting books I have ever read. I read it first about 20 years ago. I let a friend borrow and never got it back. I was glad to find it again. Bought it and re-read. I still think the author is one of the best, ever. Wonderful description of terrible event. Enjoyable and fascinating account of a terrible event by the worse among us. You will find it hard to put down once you start. The photo is where it happened.

Kenneth Franks, Jill Montgomery and Raylene Rice had the misfortune of meeting up with David Spence and his his friends, brothers Gilbert and Tony Melendez in Koehne Park in Waco, Texas. In the park, the teenagers met with their brutal, untimely death at the hands of David Spence and his friends.Truman Simons, a veteran police office, took the case personally and worked dilligently to obtain the proof needed to convict the three men who murdered these innocent teens.The twists and turns of this book make it hard to put down. From the intial investigation to the prosecution of Jordanian born Muneer Deeb for his role in the deaths of the teens (and, yes, I do believe he was guilty but walked on techinicality), the book is full of details as you walk side by side with investigators as they seek justice.The only disappointing aspect of this book is that little information was available regarding the third victim Raylene Rice. However, the author makes note that her family essentially decided to deal with the death of Raylene by distancing themselves from the other victims' families, investigators and prosecutors. At one point, Stowers even writes that Raylene, because of her families actions, almost became somewhat of an afterthought to the public.This is an excellent book. One I'm sure that will keep you reading, with never a dull moment!

Very good book very well written and very interesting about three young people who we're murdered. It took several years to bring everyone involved to Trail and to be proven guilty

Book I've read by this author, wait I should say devoured by this author. It's been awhile since I have come across a true crime book that reads like a well written suspense novel that keeps you glued to the story from beginning to end. It's an equal to THE ONION FIELD, SMALL SACRIFICES, IN COLD BLOOD and THE TWELVE OF NEVER. I have a feeling I will have finished all of Carlton Stowers books before the end of this month.

Carlton Stowers knows how to write true crime stories! I've read every true crime book he's ever written & find myself so lost inside the stories that I feel as if I'm actually there! Careless Whispers is best! I lived in Waco, Texas where this horrible crime took place & Stowers wrote this true story of the Lake Waco Triple Murders down to the last detail making it mesmerizing in every way!

i read this book about 25 years ago and didn't remember much of the story other than I loved the book. This writer has a gift for telling a compelling story, building the character development and keep the reader engaged. Reading it the second time, I loved it again. The buildup of the crime, the investigation and the bringing this to trial was highly detailed. Once the trail began, details were a little light; however, I highly recommend if you enjoy true crime.

I am from Waco, TX and also lived in the Methodist Home. I was to young to remember this, but it still pretty scarey. The book was written well and I loved all the details. Good read and I could not put it down. Very sad what happened so long ago. As a teenager I also cruised the the lake circle never realizing that a murder had taken place.

Much of his work comprises of very short and simple love poems, but whether he fills an entire page or chooses only a pinch of words, there is a depth behind each thought. It’s difficult to review poetry since it is a poet’s truth and a particularly subjective medium, so all I can say is that I adore this collection and hope you might too.

This is the most beautiful book I own. I have an addiction to reading Atticus poetry on Instagram and now have these wonderful stories in the palm of my hands. Every page of this book is beautiful and makes me so excited to turn the page. This will be my favorite new gift to give to loved ones. Don't pass this book up I promise you will be pleased.

I normally wouldn’t waste my time returning something so cheap. However, because this “book” of “poems” is so incredibly terrible and I honestly don’t want someone to ever pick it up off of my bookshelf thinking it’s worthy of sitting besides works of real authors, I am. I wrote better poetry when I was 10 and had my first big crush one someone. I mean, I might have somewhat enjoyed it then, but I don’t see how anyone else could possibly call this anything but a waste of time & paper. I got through the first 150 pages in about 15 minutes and couldn’t even bring myself to get through the rest of this garbage. Idk if I had a glass of wine too many while reading the reviews or what tf happened but I somehow missed the only accurate ones- the ones that says it’s AWFUL. if I could give this zero stars I would.

Thought this would be good with all the hype online. My expectations were high and I was let down.

Atticus somehow captures an infinite amount of emotions in very few words. His poems are feelings I had in my heart but could never express. This book is full of warm fuzzies, heartbreaking passion, and endless love. It shows me how I want and deserve to be loved. This book could be read all in once or throughout time like his instagram posts and still have the same impact. I recommend this over and over to anyone that has loved, or been loved.

The burst of poetry back into popular culture, often through social media, has been such an exciting development and Atticus brings a unique and eternally moving addition to that movement. Following his writing on instagram has been a pleasure and seeing those words put onto beautiful pages is so exciting. I've only begun to explore this work but I can already tell it is one I am going to cherish.

Richard Bak, Yankees Baseball: The Golden Age (Arcadia, 2000)I've gotten used to Arcadia books being a certain way: every new chapter begins with a couple of expository paragraphs, then we get to the pictures. None of that here; I guess Richard Bak had too many pictures and too little room in Yankees Baseball: The Golden Age for exposition. (All Arcadia books, at least those I've come across, are exactly 128 pages, so that's not an unreasonable assumption.) As a result, you've got cover-to-cover pictures and captions. I'm not a big baseball fan, so a lot of this was new to me; however, I'm relatively sure that Yankees fans will get the same thrill from the nostalgia that I got from discovery. I did, however, miss the exposition; a couple of lines about Murderers' Row and their place in contemporary sports history wouldn't have gone amiss now and then, you know? But the pictures are the thing, and they're quite nice. A handsome gift for the Yankees fan in your life. ***

I'm just sorry that I didn't know of the maps existence when we were in England; for I would surely have made an effort to view it. William Smith and his map may have been the opening shot in the ongoing battle for reason to win out over superstition as creationists still insist on a 6000 year old earth and against evolution. It also shows how hierarchical British science was at the time and remained for many years. Smith, much like James Harrison, had to fight for recognition of his accomplishments.I've read several of Winchester's books over the years and find them to be reliably interesting and informative. If you're interested in how science has come to describe the natural world, this book should be on your reading list.

The story of William Smith as brilliantly told by Simon Winchester should inspire every person whose ideas will contribute to the advancement of his fellow man. It should also encourage us in our setbacks to carry on and perform even better. I marveled at Smith's genius, but I was in awe of his persistence and the belief in himself, and I was made thankful that he was destined to be appreciated before he died. I'm his own way, William Smith was a saint and Simon Winchester proved to be a worthy hagiographer.

Simon Winchester is a great author. I read his books about the great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 and the eruption of Krakatoa..5 stars..see my reviews.The Map that Changed the World is about William Smith the "Father of Geology" and the Great Map of England's Geology that he created.We see William as a young man as a surveyor of coal mines and canals in England in the early 19th century as England was getting a great industrialization. He temporarily has a very good income but over stretched his finances, buying a large estate with a large mortgage, renting an expensive apartment, opening up a mine that fails and marrying a woman who develops heath problems and severe mental illnesses. He is fired from his job and tries getting smaller temporary jobs but eventually is thrown in "Debtors Prison". He is financially ruined.William through the decades learns about the different strata layers of the earth and the different fossils that are in certain layers. He learns the layers represent different ages of the earth and are very, very old.He believes much, much older than anyone thought. He battles people who for religious reasons believe that God created the earth in 1 day and the earth is way less than 10.000 years old. Today by carbon radioactive isotope dating, we know that some of these rock layers are hundreds of millions of years old and older. In William's early 1800th days no one knew this.Also a rich, snob member of the "Geologist Society" steals William's geology data and plagiarizes his great Map of England's underground Geology. A friend takes financially destroyed William and his wife in. Eventually the snobs in the Geology Society lose their power and William is recognized as the true "Father of Geology and the true creator of the great Map of England's Geology. William is given the ultimate recognition by his peers, the gold Wollaston Medal. Eventually, William gets his true Great colored Map of England's Geology printed and copies sold. He is given an Irish honorary doctorate degree and a $100LB pension from the English government. Finally he has the recognition as the "Father of English Geology and the creator of the Great Colored Large Map of English Geology.I won't ruin the ending for you. A great ending. Anyone interested in the history of Geology, fossils or map creation will enjoy this book plus you will learn a little about the different Earth layers and where some different kinds of fossils are located in the different layers/ages.I developed a lot of empathy for William Smith and gave a small cheer when he eventually gets his recognition as "Father of Geology", and the creator of the Great Colored large Map of English Geology a revolutionary breakthrough showing the underground geology layers that changed people's thinking about how the earth rock/layers were formed, the rock layers ages ,and life at differnt ages on earth) and happiness. 5 stars and recommended. Another winner by Simon Winchester!

After finishing this biography, I would say it was "exciting." But that was certainly not the feeling I had reading it. The author is too flowery, using long descriptions of the times and events and other personages. It took me three starts over five years to finally get into it, and to do so I had to skip a lot. If you like elaborate descriptions of England, and English society in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and looking up the meanings of obscure words you will love this book.Seven months later, I reread this review and felt it was too negative--gives the wrong impression. I still give the book four stars as I did previously, but don't know how to fix my own paragraph description so I shall let it stand and supply this supplemental note: It's kind of like watching all the Lord of the Ring movies. They were great but the sheer length is a deterrent from watching them again. In regard to this book, it was great and even the memories of it are still inspirational, but the excessive descriptions are a disincentive for rereading it again. Understand that this is only my preference, if you like or at least don't mind the descriptive passages you will love this book.

An interesting read about a little known figure, but the story sort of drags along and seems to be longer to tell the story than is needed. Would have liked to see an image of the geological map Smith apparently made that the story centered around.

An informative set of details that bring forward the beginning of the original development of the first geologic map. There are a variety of interesting points and it's well written. However, the author dangs out the book with details barely connected to the theme. The same excellent story could be told in less the number of pages or as a short story.

The book is wonderful and altho I'm not finished reading it, I gave it 5 stars already. I have a LOT of reading so I read my non-fictions in fits and starts when I get a chance (during commercials, while waiting at the doctor's office, etc.) This is one I'm having a hard time putting back down. Very well-written and thank goodness for guys (and gals) that had the courage to look beyond conventional thinking and look towards science. Good book - recommend to all!

This book is okay. There are some good ideas and projects. However 50 percent is teaching you to program arduino. I am proficientIn C/C++. I felt letdown.

Very good intro to Arduino for those who know a bit about music theory. Also a good intro to taking your Arduino projects a bit further by soldering and putting everything into boxes.

On both the macro and micro level, this book shows what’s possible and how to make music on an arduino. One more word required for a review? That’s a dumb rule. I’ve said plenty.

Very clearly written with great examples.

Bought this asite a gift for my boyfriend, he LOVE this book. He's a music producer and also an electrician, so it goes without saying, this was an excellent fit. This book has soooooooo much information and such a wide range of projects and tutorials to put together just about any equipment you'd need to run a studio.

Like all Peter Matthiessen's works this is deep and insightful. To me he is one of the best authors in the last hundred years. Some cannot get into his writing however. Once the reader lets go and allows the idiom to overcome him the reader is not merely reading any more but becomes part of the story. I have read At Play in the Fields of the Lord, Far Tortuga and Shadow Country and was not able to put any of them down. Having spent time in the jungle, in Caribbean Central America and living in South Florida made it even easier for me to visualize his descriptions. Any mature serious reader cannot help but be left stunned by his writing. If you have not read Peter Matthiessen you have not read the some of the best of American Literature.

I read this book twice, in 1989 in Africa and in 1996 in Brazil, then I spent five years among the Yanomami Indians and was able to experience many of the things described in the story. I recently listened to the audiobook version and found it moving, fascinating and thought-provoking. Anthony Heald does a great job with voices and accents, speaks the Spanish parts well and does a good job rendering the Niaruna language. As a story, it is brilliantly told; Matthiessen's prose is vivid and his characters are richly crafted. The events are as tragic as anything in Shakespeare, but they are close to real life in their dimensions and horror. I have met many missionaries like the ones in this book, and a few mercenaries like Wolfie. The descriptions of life in the Amazon are precise and accurate; the book's depictions of indigenous peoples are marvelously evocative. No other book that I've read paints a clearer picture of the conflict between civilization and nature.

I have previously read and reviewed four other books by Peter Matthiessen, all of which I thought were fine books and to which I gave four stars. But I never quite thought of them as works of pure genius, not until I read this book. Here, Matthiessen's writing is so exquisite, nuanced and daringly spot-on that one scarcely knows how to describe it. He writes like an an angel or dæmon swooping down upon the South American jungle landscape and deep into the inner lives of those who populate it with a searing lyrical torch. I've never read anything quite like it.The setting could not seem more banal or clichéd: hypocritical evangelists, a jaded Catholic priest, primitive Indian tribes, a corrupt Spanish officer etc. But Matthiessen sets them all to dancing through dark and light, death and life in this book.He describes the Spanish cathedral as seen though the eyes of a Protestant missionary's wife thus:"Though she knew no Latin, the priest's ritual voice in the unearthly light evoked half-memories of illuminated manuscripts, of fat abbeys and round-pated monks, fair countrysides and far cathedrals against towering windy skies crossed by dark birds."and he describes the jungle as seen by a missionary thus:"He had wandered into a cathedral of Satan where all prayer was abomination, a place without a sky, a stench of death, vast somber naves and clerestories, the lost cries of savage birds - he whooped and called, but no voice answered."But, most of all, he describes the world as seen by Lewis Moon, the anti-hero of the book, with a frightening, magical sharpness, as when he parachutes into the jungle here:"He blinked, in tears; he was alive again, laughing idiotically in the clean sunlight of the upper air, legs dangling and swaying like the legs of a rag doll, drifting, drifting down through the great morning, in a wild silence like the wake of bells."I quote so extensively because it's simply impossible to convey the power of the book without putting its unearthly lyricism on display. Matthiessen is also a naturalist, of course, and his descriptions of the environment are as precise as his writing is ensorcelling, as profound as the depths to which he takes the readers into the souls of his characters.I don't know what else I can say save to urge every lover of literature to please, please don't let your life end without first reading this coruscating work of highest art.

The plot is engaging. I thought most of the characters were believeable and the main ones were pretty intriguing. I agree with another reviewer who said the character of Huben is too two-dimensional.Matthiesson uses a bad crutch in order to make one of the protagonists interesting: he makes many other characters unduly fascinated with him. They discuss him endlessly with no other objective but to help the reader understand how fascinating he is.Spoilers after this.The reason I didn't love it was Moon and his subplot. He wasn't as interesting as the author seemed to think. And his plot doesn't mean anything, not even that his story was pointless. I guess his journey downriver was meant to be lyrical in a ghastly way, but by then I thought the character had been worn thin.The ending felt kind of flat to me. Quarrier starts out as an interesting character, but his story doesn't quite do much. I sympathized with him, because his internal dynamics are interesting and I remember he was played by Aidan Quinn in the movie, and Quinn is pretty cool!The title does more than suggest a theme, it's part of a thesis: that people like missionaries who think they are truly helping vulnerable groups are often, in fact, really just trying to live out their own fantasies. Instead of working the fields of the lord, they're playing in them, enacting their own psychodramas if you will.I think this is nicely set up in most characters' stories, but I was left without a very strong impression on the subject. The end didn't entirely realize the setups. Because it kept me intrigued to the end, I'm rounding up my rating to four stars.

Let me preface this review with the fact that I love the Bob Books; I believe they are one of the best "learn to read" products on the market. My three star rating does not reflect the content of the Bob Books series.I had read that some people complained that these books were the small, older versions. I did not mind this, however considering the fact that my daughter was about to finish Set One and I wanted Set Two, I am quite disappointed that the first six books in this set are also in Set One! I wouldn't have paid this much for only six books. Upon further research it seems that there are some sets marked "Set Two" that aren't repetitive and this set is an older version. However there is no way to determine which you are getting, older or newer. Buyers, keep this in mind when ordering!**UPDATE**I have discovered if you have "Collection One" and have finished that (books 1-18) what you want next is called "Collection Two" (not set two). This will keep you from repeating those six books.

The first six (of 12) books in "Set 2" of the Bob books are the EXACT SAME as the last six books in "collection 1."Collection 1 includes beginning readers and advancing beginners.Collection 2 includes advancing beginners and word families.I feel pretty cheated on this one as collection 1 and set 2 were roughly the same price and buying online. It's pretty hard to notice the difference on Amazon. I thought I was purchasing collection 2, but you have to really understand the verbiage.The books in this set include:1 - Fun in the Sun (in collection 1)2- Up, Pup (in collection 1)3- Pip and Pog (in collection 1)4- Bow-Wow! (in collection 1)5-The Big Hat (in collection 1)6- Sox the Fox (in collection 1)7- ok, kids8-Rub-a-Dub9-Go, Bus10- The Red Hen11-The Sad Car12 - 0 to 10I do like the Bob series books overall, but this was very frustrating.By the way, check your local Costco. They had COLLECTION 2 for the same price as COLLECTION 1, where it seems to be twice as expensive here on Amazon.

I absolutely love these books. my 5 year old has been able to read several of the books all the way through, what a great learning tool! These should be a must have for all schools and parents!!

I wanted to know why these books (recommend by teacher) were better than step 1 or level 1 books.A friend mom explained: these books are small and have easy starting words, they build confidence which builds the desire to read.This is how the convo went in my house.Me: i got you a new set of books!She: ok you can read me oneMe: i thought you could read this timeShe: how about if i read the title and you read the restMe: okShe: (reads title)She: (reads first page)Me: do you want to read every other page?She: no, i got this (finishes book)She: lets do the next book (reads 2 more books)The next night she read 3 again. Luckily the box has plenty of books. We’re ready for more, maybe with bigger words this time!

We purchased several sets of Bob Books and I feel they are some of the best beginner reader books out there. I have twins in kindergarten and they love these books. They are just the right length and have repetitive words throughout. The graphics are very basic, so I was concerned they wouldn't like them. I found that this is actually very beneficial because then the graphics are not a distraction.

Holding a book, turning pages, and decoding simultaneously can be a challenge for sensory kids. Used these first 2 sets to get them started, then they were ready for the real thing. Highly recommend, but best for a tablet or larger phone. I teach kids with special needs to read for a living. Bobbi's books are so much better than See Dick Run. Controlled vocab, cute but simple pictures minimize reliance on picture clues, and short sentences enable kids to learn to sound-out-without-stopping quite easily.

I get it, but they are really just OK books to me... a few words per page, very simple pictures... but some of the words are not the greatest of sight words for learning. Very similar to the Bob Books for Kindergarten. My daughter (5) loved those, but these were not as big of a hit.. so 3 stars... I feel that there are a lot of choices now in this type of introductory learning book that these have lost their charm.

I purchased these for my son before he started prek and he loved them he start reading on his own and taking interest in words by time he started prek and time he was in Kindergarten he got to read to him class.
