Great perspectives to our beliefs and our call to serve Christ and others

It was a good book.

An excellent first look at theology for members of the laity. There is a focus on the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. This shouldn't keep others from reading it. The section on liberation theology is particularly good.

Required EFM reading. Unfortunately, the text appears to have been reprinted with a new forward but no substantial changes. I believe the most recent citation was dated 1986.

An EfM Interlude text and the BEST one I've seen yet in the past three years.There is more for consideration in these 136 pages than can be discussed in two short sessions. At five chapters one could consider and easily discuss one chapter per week. Written from an Anglican PERSPECTIVE, I believe that any Christian wishing to deepen their personal understanding can find much to consider; if they are open to the premise that one need to be able to live in tension without insistence that any authority have a corner on absolute biblical knowledge and understanding.While I can't agree with everything Thompsett offers, I do with most. And that is the gift we are given as theologians ourselves. We must read and interpret thru our eyes and our understanding (in community) to receive glimpses of the mystery with which we are presented, rather than just accepting what we are spoon fed by those some consider leaders.

I'm a graduate student taking an exam in folklore without much coursework to prepare me, and I found this useful for helping me pull together the concepts I was reading about in other places. At the same time, it provides lots of examples, and yet not in enough depth that I would cite this source for those examples. Since you'll need to do research on examples anyway, it might make more sense to wade through Toelken's The Dynamics of Folklore or check out Lynne McNeill's Folklore Rules.

Its a great book, I love to keep reading it.

This textbook was not intended for undergraduate level courses. It is used primarily at the graduate level. Specifically, it might be assigned for the first course of an M.A. program in Folklore.

I use this text in an upper-level undergrad English course on folklore, and the students seem to understand the material quite well. I am there to help them work through the more difficult concepts. I wouldn't automatically rule it out for a junior/senior level class.

This book completes our set. They are easy to read, contain interesting, off beat information you wouldn't find in other history books: they're awesome. We have/are using them as part of our US History curriculum. I am using them with a high schooler and he loves them.

Super series and super book. Makes history come alive. However, this is the most boring of all the books. Having lived through many of the events, I find her writing balanced but boring.One MAJOR complaint against the later books is that she confuses democracy with affluency equality. They are very separate, and she blurs lines there that can become dangerous for the mindset and worldview. Otherwise, EXCELLENT book and series.

The is the BEST series by an amazing storyteller. Author Joy Hakim writes in such a way that middle school --and upper elementary students can read and appreciate history. I would purchase every book she ever wrote and will write. A+

expected a more detailed storyline. I had read the adult version and told my grandchildren about it. they were very interested. found the child-version to be lacking. grandchildren are 4 and 7.

The Snow Child by Harriet Ziefert was about and older couple who could not have a child. This made them very sad, though they still loved each other. One day, they noticed all of the little kids playing out in the snow and decided to join them. Instead of making a snow man, they decided to make a snow child. They gave her a body with arms and legs, eye, ears, nose, and even hair. They topped the snow child off with a dress.When the woman kissed the snow child, it came to life. This made them both very happy. They finally had a child. They prepared her a bed inside, but the child refused to sleep in it. She needed to stay outside where it was cold, so they made her a bed of ice and she slept in it.When spring began, the snow child ran away to follow the cold. This devastated the husband and wife, but when winter came, so did the child.This book seemed unrealistic even for a children’s book. There should have been some sort of explanation as to how the snow came to life, even if it was something as simple as “And the woman’s want for a child was so great that when she kissed the snow, it came to life.”The illustrations were unique. It looks like the illustrator cut up pieces of magazine-like paper of various fabrics and threw them together. Everything was very flat-looking. Some of the cutouts were very realistic, and you could see the threads in the clothing, whereas others looked drawn and dotted with white-out. The spring section of the book was very colorful.Overall, this was by no means by favorite children’s book, but it was okay.

This tale was the inspiration for the novel Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey.

I loved this book as a child, when my father would read it to me before bedtime I would get so excited, it was my favorite. I would recommend it for any young child. To me this book is a must have, so I am ordering it again since the copy I had when I was a child got worn out, now I can read it to my children.

This is a sweet retelling of an old tale,but what makes it prticularly good are the charming illustrations by Julia Zanes. Both my six year old and 10 year old daughters love it and we've given several copies as presents this winter.
